The new PS5 Slim Digital Edition is now available at major retailers, including Amazon and Best Buy. Retailing for $450–an increase of $50 versus the original PS5 Slim–the console is a sleeker version of the same hardware. It’s not included in any Black Friday sales, but we imagine it will still be a popular holiday item in the coming weeks. If you so choose, you can add a disc drive to the PS5 Slim Digital at a later date. The disc drive is available at Amazon for $80, but it already sold out at Best Buy.
It’s worth noting that spending $450 on the PS5 Slim Digital during Black Friday probably won’t offer the most bang for your buck for most people. And increasing the price to $530 with the disc drive certainly isn’t advisable at this time. That’s because of the PS5 Slim Black Friday bundles.
For example, you can get a PS5 Slim with a disc drive and a new game like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for $499 instead of $560.
The PS5 Slim looks like a solid upgrade when compared to the bulkier PS5 console that launched three years ago. The PS5 Slim is roughly 30% smaller, offers some extra storage capacity, and this will be the default model going forward for Sony once it sells through all of its available OG PS5 stock. You’ll want a few more extras if you do decide to get a PS5, and the good news is that there’s a whole lot of related hardware and software on sale.
You can bump up the available storage capacity with a 1TB PS5 SSD for only $56 or a 2TB model for $100, an extra DualSense controller is only $49, and an officially licensed Backbone PlayStation controller for PS5 remote play is available for $70. For the games, there’s a solid number of exclusives to choose from, including God of War Ragnarok, and Final Fantasy 16.
